SUSAN METZGER Susan started conducting tours of Salem Massachusetts in the late 1990s, since then she has taken thousands of visitors on tour. In 2002, she was instrumental in the creation process of a tour of Salem's waterfront district. In 2004, she became the lead tour guide for the Hocus Pocus Walking Tour. Since then, she has regularly contributed to the redevelopment of the tour, which is now in its fourth version. Nightly, she brings Salem alive one again, with her expertise of Salem's colonial daily life. Visitors have been enchanted with her depth of knowledge and limitless patients to explain all of Salem intricacies and nuances. She particularly enjoys highlighting the historical significance of the Lapin Park area (the intersection of Washington and Essex Streets) today the site one of Salem's newest additions, a statue of Samantha Stevens (Elizabeth Montgomery). She also enjoys discussing Salem's Witchcraft Hysteria Memorial, which in 2005 she was instrumental in redeveloping our current analysis, which is presented nightly during our touring season. This latest update has proven to be a powerful and moving addition, which leaves our guests with a deeper understanding of the Witchcraft Hysteria. Susan is a firm believer that the hysteria was more than two little girls who many feel started it all. Rather, she shares our director's point of view, that the history of the hysteria and history in general is much more expansive and valuable in our everyday lives.
