Take Public Transportation to Salem

MBTA

Click here for the MBTA's website. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) services Salem with train as well as bus service. By train, Salem is accessible on the Newbury/Rockport Commuter Rail Line. It is a 10 minute walk from the Salem Depot to our Essex St. walking tour meeting location (176 Essex Street, Salem, MA). We are also accessible by MBTA Bus. We recommend disembarking at the Salem Commuter Rail Station and walking to our walking tour meeting location.

Driving Directions & Parking Info

Click here to be linked to a Google map with our walking tour's meeting point (176 Essex Street, Salem, MA) already entered. Please note the part of Essex Street that our walking tour meets at is located on a street that does not allow vehicle traffic. For current traffic conditions on major roads servicing the Salem area (e.g., Routes 1, 90, 93, 95, and 128) please visit sigalert.com.

Parking is located in a parking lot on Church Street as well as the Salem East India Square Garage which is located on New Liberty Street. Both parking locations are within a five minute walk of our Essex Street walking tour meeting location. Additional parking locations can be found at salem.org/parking.

Sail to Salem on the Salem Ferry

Depart from downtown Boston, cruise along the picturesque New England coastline, and disembark in historic Salem. Click here for Ferry schedules and fares.

Tips for Your Trip

As we tour year round, we recommend consulting with Salem's official travel and visitor site to determine current operating schedules for area attractions. Also, this is an outdoor walking tour, so be sure to dress to spend approximately 90-minutes, outside, in New England weather.  Click here to check out for current local weather.
